Birds of Bakkie & Warappakreek
The Warappakreek is a paradise for real bird watchers. The area can be divided into three specific landscapes (mangrove, swamp and coast). 166 different bird species have already been identified in the area.
Examples of spectacular birds are the scarlet ibis, roseate spoonbill, bald-headed stork and the jabiroe. Species that are common in the Warappa area, but are not or only very difficult to find outside Suriname, are the Crab Buzzard, Bloodbacked Woodpecker and the Guyanese Dwarf Woodpecker.
